Rid your towels of an odor

Oh no, You keep your towels washed, & use fabric softener to have them smell fresh & clean, but they still have an odor. Well, it’s notΒ because you’re not washing your towels as often as you should, it’s actuallyΒ a build up of the fabric softener causing that mildew smell. Fabric softener and washing detergent can build up and hold a “mildew” smell. How can you fix this? Easy, Try this for a quick way to restore not only your towels scent, but its absorbance & texture as well.

First wash the towels in the hottest cycle available (I used the “sanitary” cycle), don’t add any washing detergent or fabric softener, But, add 1 cup of vinegar to the cycle. Let it wash, once finished, repeat the process but this time dont use vinegar, use baking soda. When finished washing, dry without fabric softener sheets. After use, wash as normal. I would say repeat atleast once a month to prevent any odors. I also found that (I guessΒ I used too much fabric softener and dryer sheets) when my towels were dry, they still had a gain scent even though they had been washed 3 times (I tried amonia first, didnt help) but there wasn’t any mildew odors.

Tip Alert: try placing dryer sheets in the linen closet with your towels, they will have a scent without the extra build up.

I’m going to give this a try. I was just recently complaining to my husband about some of our towels and washclothes and said I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t get the smell out. I was thinking about throwing them out! Thank you for this! If this works for my towels you will have saved me so much money!

Hi Laura, Thanks so much. Yes Im sure it will work. Now if they have soured instead of actually just having the smell, I did it twice. But I just wanted to make sure it was gone. I was sick of them and about to trash them as well. Let me know

So washing them super hot doesn’t affect the colors or make them bleed or anything?

Nicky I did it in super hot water and it didnt fade my red or black towels but i have washed them before it tried this. My towels were to the point of putting them in the garbage. I did it 3 times for it to work but my towels are saved
