I recently started redecorating my bedroom, and after my best friend became obsessed with Gold accent colors, I have to admit its rubbed off on me. When I started planning to redo my bedroom, I was kind of unsure what I wanted to do. A friend thats an interior decorator redecorated the dining room and used the black/gold accent colors & it looks AMAZING! I have NEVER been a gold person, but age, likes, & taste change with time, just like life :). After seeing the dining room complete, I noticed that the lamp shades were accented with gold on the inside. I LOVE this! Its the little things that really pop out in a room.
I have a chandelier hanging in my bedroom that has a shade around it that I installed last summer. I like my fixture, and I didn’t plan on changing it out when redoing my bedroom. I did however, want to enhance it after being inspired from the dining room lamp shades. SO I thought, PAINT IT! I love to take something so small and enhance it to look way better.
If you have a lamp or light fixture shade that you love but think it needs a little personal enhancement, get your paintbrush & paint out and try this!
Heres what my fixture looked like before, kinda plain huh?
So here is what you will need:
-a regular paint brush (I used a cheap 1″ size brush) Foam brushes don’t work so well, I tried! LOL
-Any color Metallic Acrylic Paint (I used Gold because thats my accent color, but you can do any color to compliment the room)
-A dust cloth or rag. (I used 2, one moistened & 1 dry)
First, wipe off all the inside to remove any dust, if you use a moist rag, make sure the shade is dried afterwards.
Next, shake your paint really well to make sure its mixed well, then start painting the inside of the shade, I did it vertically to make sure all the brush strokes were cohesive when looking at it.
Once dry, make sure to paint the edged or trim if its the same color as the inside was.
Now just re-add it to your lamp or fixture and look at the difference!
P.S. to really make it glimmer & glisten, you can also glitter the inside of it as well. I started to do it, but I didn’t want any trace of glitter on my bedding, But it would look great though!!!
Let me know what you think, or if you have done this and the results!
