Lets face it, we all use it and never think about cleaning it until two things occur, its either clogged up, or it has a horrible sour odor coming from it. What is this thing I’m speaking about, THE GARBAGE DISPOSAL. I have seen many ways to clean it, but the one I use quiet often, well… I tend to toss some old citrus that I keep in a basket on my bar in the garbage disposal to grind and clean it out. I was looking at this basket and noticed how old and gross looking these oranges had become and knew I had to start doing something different. No matter how old, I knew I wasn’t going to trash them. Citrus is a great odor killing natural cleaner. So, why not grind it up and freeze it? Sometimes if I don’t have any lemons or oranges to use, I like to use ice cubes. So its like a win win and I won’t have any old withered fruit sitting on my bar anymore.
Here’s what you will need:
Any type of citrus fruit (oranges, lemons, grape fruits)
A food processor
Ice cube tray
First place the whole citrus in the food processor
Next purée the citrus in the food processor
Next, spoon the puréed citrus into the ice cube trays
Freeze until hard, then place into freezer bags. Then when needed, drop into garbage disposal and run with hot water. I run one in mine at least inane a week. Just to make sure it’s cleaned out, plus I LOVE the citrus smell in the kitchen. Especially lemon! Lemon is the cleanest smell in the kitchen, to me.
So tell me what do you think?
